Quizzes: Everyone should get an A
I am not kidding. If you follow the plan I have carefully laid out for you (take warm-ups seriously, have the required supplies) the quizzes should be easy. The problem is, most people don't follow my evil, er, great plan that leads to great scores on quizzes.
Here is what you need to know about quizzes:
- We have them almost every other week on Friday.
- The bulk of the quiz questions are always the ten vocabulary words we have worked on for two weeks.
- If you do poorly on a quiz, you can retake it the next week.
- I am always very clear on the EXACT things to expect on the weekly quiz. Except for the occasional reveiw question, it is always on things we worked on that week. There is no excuse for not knowing.
- Early on in any trimester, the score you get on quizzes is magnified since quizzes are 40 percent of your grade.
- If you were absent that week, you still have to take the quiz. Who knows, you might get lucky.
- There is always extra credit on my quizzes in the form of something I call, The Big One. The Big One is one question that I have told students about for the entire week, and, if they get it right, they get extra credit that helps make it much easier to score well on my quizzes. No one should ever miss The Big One because we practice answering it all week.
